Indiranagar, Bangalore

Indiranagar (Indira Nagar) is a neighborhood locality located in east of the Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The name Indira in Indiranagar itself appears familiar & well known which represents & reminds the great personality of India: Indhira Gandhi, the former Prime minister. And it’s true that the locality is named after Indhira Gandhi as Indiranagar in 1980's. Indiranagar was a residential area at the beginning when it was formed with a BDA (Bangalore Development Authority) layout, but with the boom of IT (Information Technology).

Indiranagar in addition to a residential area it also became one of the commercial arena’s of Bangalore. Indiranagar has an added value of its geographical site location as Indiranagar shares its boundaries with Vimanapura on the east, Ulsoor on the west, Byappanahalli on the north & Domlur on the south. Generally an area gets it place value mainly because of its surrounding borders or boundaries. Even Indiranagar too gained its geographical place value or site location value in Bangalore because of its surrounding borders which are prominent areas.

As, Indiranagar is in the vicinity of commercial zones of M.G Road, Brigade Road, Koramangala & Airport Road. All the boundaries of Indiranagar are so prominent that the residents of this area not only get benefit but also the Indiranagar got its commercial arena status because of them. Ulsoor has many temples of which Halasuru Someshwara Temple is the oldest one built in 16th century by Kempe Gowda & stands as Bangalore's heritage & for the architectural mix of Hoysala, Cholas & Vijayanagara patterns. Many supermarkets & fashion stores are located in CMH Road of Ulsoor which serves as the shopping spot for both Indiranagar & Ulsoor locals.

And the other boundary Domlur is also a township which is very near to old airport. Domlur has many Multi National Companies (MNC) & Business Processing Units (BPO) to name: Dell, IBM, Microsoft and Target. Even the defense organizations like Indian Air force, EME workshop & ASC are present in Domlur. Thus, Indira nagar due to its proximity to Domlur also became the residential & commercial arena as the defense & military personnel reside here.

Vimanapura is one more boundary to Indira nagar. It has HAL Offices, HAL Quarters, HAL Hospital, Indian Space Research Organization, Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine and Air India. Thus, from 1980's to till 2008 Vimanapura HAL airport served as Domestic & International Airport which then taken by Bengaluru Airport. It means, from starting of Indiranagar till 2008 Vimanapura HAL airport added geographical sight significance to Indiranagar locality on Map as a boundary region & brought a commercial value to this locality of Indiranagar.

And Byappanahalli comes into picture as not only the other border of Indiranagar but also it has a greater significance when it comes to Bangalore City’s Intra transportation, as Namma Metro, a Rapid Mass Transit System’s Purple line connects Byappanahalli to Whitefield at a stretch of 15..50 KM covering 14 stations operated by BMRC.
